It’s spring, the soil is warming up, and the rains are easing. Here are some tips to get your garden flowering well this month.
Deadhead Spent Flowers
Regularly remove faded blooms to encourage more buds.
Feed With Fertiliser
Use a balanced fertiliser like 3:1:5 to promote good bloom production. Liquid seaweed or kelp tonics also give plants a good boost. Apply every 4 to 8 weeks.
Mulch Beds
Keep soil moist and suppress weeds while protecting new buds from drying out.
Watering
Start watering more often as spring heats up, especially for annuals and new plantings.
Pruning
Resist pruning any flowering plants between September and November, as this will halt their flowering season.
Lawn Fertiliser
For September, use a 7:1:3 lawn fertiliser.
